In celebration of Indigenous Peoples’ Day, check out this game made in just under two days for the 2023 Epic MegaJam themed: “Antiquated Future.” Pt.3 Discover the life force within objects and use telekinesis to defeat the priest who stole your body! Avenge your family! Hundreds of years ago on the west coast of what is now South America, rapidly growing Indigenous communities innovated with agriculture, architecture, and astronomy. Quipus —complex woven clothing made of multicolored fibers, beads, and knots— were among the few physical systems of recording knowledge by Andean peoples. They were used as social identifiers, records of knowledge, and complex computational tools. However, upon exposure to Spanish colonizers who brought disease and governmental interference, Indigenous leaders burnt warehouses of Quipus in an effort to protect long-held secrets. The full extent of their use is still unknown. Note: Player locomotion, metahuman character design, beach cave assets, and dungeon structure assets were made before the start of the game jam using Quixel Megascan assets. Sound assets are from Pixabay (Final Destruction, by Stanislav Barantsov). All other level design, combat, inventory, spawning, and abilities were made during the jam. Unfortunately, the final demo was a bit too large to satisfy the competition’s 1GB limit due to the use of high poly assets. Since then I’ve learned how to better optimize project packaging to make downloads more accessible. #RPG #IndigenousPeoplesDay #IPD #epic #unreal #indiegames #indigenous #native #unrealengine #gamedev #gameart #newgame #ue #indiegamedeveloper #unity #gamedesign #scifi #native #black #futurism #solodev
