POCAHONTAS STATE PARK - Hike to Swift Creek Dam
**Comment PARK for my detailed guide on activities at Pocahontas**
We just discovered this amazing hike and can’t wait to go back! @vastateparks Pocahontas has so many trails, just when I feel like we have a favorite, we find a new one to love.
♥️WHY WE LOVE THIS HIKE♥️
🥾Small creek crossing - we spent a while trying different ways to cross, moving rocks, etc. I always love to have something to break up a hike.
💦Wide creek crossing for wading/splashing, throwing rocks
🛒Wide paths; good for groups or all-terrain strollers
🪨Surface is paved gravel and sand
👟 You can actually walk up to the Swift Creek Dam (it’s behind the wide creek crossing)
🚘 BEFORE YOU GO 🚘
🅿️ Take Beach Rd. from Ironbridge and you will park in the first small parking lot on the right. (I think it’s called Powerline.)
🗺️From the parking lot, you will go straight, then to the right, and follow signs to the Swift Creek Dam.
😅It is ~2 miles roundtrip. Coming back there’s a large incline.
🎒Bring: change of clothes, water shoes for the creek, snacks, water bottles, first aid kit, bug spray
⏰ This took us about 2-2.5 hours, mostly spent playing in the water.
⚠️ You get to the dam by going up and slightly right from the wide creek crossing. There’s a wall around you to keep you safe but you still need to keep little ones close.
🚽 No restroom along this route. Just drive to the main entrance and use the Visitor’s Center restroom or the one near the playground. (less than 5 minutes from this parking lot)
We go to Pocahontas all the time, and absolutely love it! Let me know what questions you have about the park’s trails, camping, programs, etc. Happy to help!😀
