Willy Prom 2024
(Wilson’s Promontory 🙄)
“Make it look easy” that’s what I tell my clients whenever we take a clip for insta🤫
3 hours sleep, then 3 hours drive to Willy Prom, as it’s now known by many of us…
Day one was a scorcher. Sweaty, stinky. Up a steep road before we could get to the trailhead. Following that, a steep decent towards the junction before heading onto a single track where we met our blue tongue friend. Although the sun was bright and harsh, the beach itself was covered in a thick mist, creating a dream-like sensation. Jade described it like being in Narnia.
Over the four days it seemed 2 crows would periodically “check in” on us. 🔮✨
Just one of many experiences we had with wildlife. Notably, in the middle of my sleep during night 2 I was awoken by a rustling close to our tent. Reluctantly I got out to investigate - in the cold, dark rain mind you. I was overjoyed 🤡 to discover something moving inside Jade’s food bag, which was tied up the top but now had a small hole on the side. I carried it away in a brisk steady walk. However, the perpetuator clearly sensed the movement. Out the side of bag came a fat bush rat 🐀. Bro was well fed.
The third night had me nervous also as it seemed we’d set up camp smack bang in the middle possum pub. Eyes glowing in the darkness, left side, right side and directly above. Robert commented, “I don’t like that they’re communicating with each other”. I think I heard one possum say to the other, “Let’s wait till they’re asleep”, I can’t be sure though. Thankfully all was well and the only thing I awoke to was the sound of one of the crows pecking at our rubbish bag.
All that and I’ve barely mentioned the scenery. It’s just one of those things you have to experience for yourself.
2/10
